Magnolia House

A New Beginning

After 10 years as a family day carer, Valerie had a dream, to indulge her passions for knitting,
embroidery and beading and help a life long dream
come true. With the support of her husband Valerie
started buying stock and looking for a shop front to
contain the new object of her dreams.

Having lived in Ulmarra for the last 3 years Valerie
decided to make the small historical village the home
of her new business,

Ulmarra Creative Expressions

One afternoon mid December 2004 Valerie was
walking home feeling dejected, having exhausted
all her avenues for a shop front in Ulmarra.

As she walked, something caught her eye. A sad,
lonely old house called to her and said "Buy me."
And that is exactly what she did.

And so, Magnolia House was born.

The house had been built in 1896 and was
understandably run down and in need of some
major restorations. Valerie attacked the project
with a renew vigor, safe in the knowledge that once
she was finished she would have a magnificent
venue for her new store.

After 9 weeks of intensive renovations, the new store
was ready. In just 2 days all the stock that had been
accumulated over the previous 4 months was moved
in and filled the empty shelves and drawers.

On Saturday 19th March 2005, the doors were
thrown open for the first time. And the rest, as they
say, is history...
